ENERGY STAR® Certification

Recognizing Superior Energy Performance

ENERGY STAR® Certification is a nationally recognized designation awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to buildings that demonstrate superior energy performance. The certification helps property owners showcase their commitment to energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational excellence while potentially reducing utility costs and increasing asset value. Certified buildings are recognized as top performers compared to similar properties across the country.

To qualify, an eligible building must be benchmarked in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager®, achieve an ENERGY STAR score of 75 or higher, and have its data verified by a licensed professional. In addition to standard ENERGY STAR Certification, the EPA offers ENERGY STAR NextGen® recognition for buildings that combine high energy efficiency with reduced carbon emissions and renewable energy use.

EIA can assist building owners manage the benchmarking, documentation, verification, and application process, making it easier to achieve and maintain ENERGY STAR recognition year after year.
